packing listSo I’m really, really trying to pack light for my upcoming trip to the East Coast, partially because the last time I traveled with my boyfriend was is Italy, when I had a month’s+ worth of clothes in a huge heavy roll-y bag, and he did not love having to help me lug it around cobbly streets and endless train station stairs.  It was a scarring experience.  This time the trip will only be 8 days (4 nights in New York, 3 nights in Asheville), and we have to be extra considerate of the space we’ll be crashing in.  So here’s a preliminary plan of what I’m thinking, inspired in part by some of the more casual looks of Fash-n-Chips, with some new takes on my airplane outfit.

BAGGAGE:  I just scored this Everlane weekender as a super early birthday gift (thanks, parents!) but I also love this Cuyana bag. / This cool Zara messenger bag would keep everything in tact and safe in transit.

OUTERWEAR:  Afraid of freezing on the East coast, I impulse-ordered a blue coat on supersale for $10.  This one here is similar. / A scarf will have to serve as my sole accessory.  Call it minimalism.  This Cuyana scarf looks so, so soft. / My American Apparel gray hoodie is a timeless old friend.  (The one shown here is J.Crew.)

BOTTOMS:  Patterned drawstring pants, because they’re fun and comfy. / Faux leather leggings, so as to avoid feeling slobby in all my comfort gear. / Dark jeans, to mix and match with anything.

TOPS:   A bright sweater, to layer or wear alone, depending. / A striped top, classic enough to be sure I won’t look back at the photos embarrassed. / A denim button-up, in the spirit of goes-with-anything. / Assorted basic tees, for layering or sleeping in.

SHOES:  I know I’ll be walking a ton in the city, so Chucks are an easy choice. / Flats pack well, speed up the airport security process, and will be a slightly dressier option.

Am I still bringing too much?  Too little?  Is it totally boring?  Am I going to freeze?  (My instinct is to bring tons of big boots, but those are such a pain to pack.)

I’d stash a pair of tights in there as an insurance policy, esp. if you’re bringing flats that’ll expose the tops of your feet. This may just be me, but nothing makes me colder than exposed feet. I always bring boots and wear them on the plane so they don’t take up any room in my suitcase.

This is a perfect packing list. i either overpack or do not pack enough and always ending up buying clothes i really don’t want or can use. i’m bookmarking this post. xo.

I want the everlane weekender in mustard. I’ve been eyeing that guy for a while – let me know how you like it!

[...] wallet packs quite nicely. ($13) / Lip balm is a given, and my matte red lipstick will work with everything I imagine packing, so makeup will be simple. ($3/$20) / I recently switched to this SPF moisturizer and love it. [...]
